Be a Cool Cat...

When I was a kid I created a cool cat cartoon.  He was smart cool cat who could hold a pencil with his tail and write poetry.  If your child is creating their own cartoons or characters this class might be one they are interested in. Bare Knuckle Arts is offering Cartooning and Illustration the week of July 31st till August 4th.

Comics are a great form of visual learning. In this week long class students learn how to create and develop their own cartoons! This drawing intensive class takes a deeper look into character development, background design, perspective and movement drawing. Budding cartoonists will develop a cast of characters and/or their own comic strip.  Ages 8-12 Welcome

Vote for the New Blue Crayon!

Crayon facts. In 1885 Binney and Smith formed the partnership that led to crayons.  In 1903 the first box of crayons was made and sold for 5 cents a box.  It contained 8 colors.  In 1958 the company introduced the largest Crayola crayon box-it had 64 in a box and a built in sharpener.  Since 1990 Crayola has retired colors.  When a new blue pigment called YInMn (yin-min) was discovered in 2009 by Mas Subramanian, a chemistry professor at Oregon State University, we were very excited. This discovery is the first new blue pigment in 200 years and is the inspiration for the new blue crayon color. We voted and you can too. The new blue crayon needs a name, so submit your Name Ideas and be entered for a chance to win! Create a name-http://www.crayola.com/splash/promos/newblue

MAKE Summer Fun!!!

When I was a kid hanging out in Columbus Wisconsin meant going to a place called Fireman's Park.  It had and still has a great old white pavilion, an outdoor swimming pool, some play equipment, baseball diamonds, and a little building called Resthaven.  Resthaven is an old brick building built in Prairie style, it was originally was used for people who traveled and camped at the park.  During my time in the 70's the was a building used for arts and crafts summer classes and it punctuated my summers of fun!  Like many strange things ingrained in our collective memories the smell of this place is tied to making god's eyes, gimp lanyards, and mod podge collages. It was all about making summer fun.  Bare Knuckle Arts is dedicated to making summer fun for your children.  Enrollment has begun and there are many classes for all different ages, learners, and makers.  Join us and MAKE summer fun!!!

"Down by the Rivers of Windfall Light" at Oakwood East

Fern Hill excerpt by Dylan Thomas, perfectly describes the landscapes we painted today at Oakwood East.  Simple landscapes perhaps of our youth.  Excellent watercolor painting for beginners.

Trail with daisies and barley

Down the rivers of the windfall light.

And as I was green and carefree, famous among the barns

About the happy yard and singing as the farm was home,

In the sun that is young once only,

Time let me play and be

Golden in the mercy of his means.
